Switching things up...and bed rest

James' living room is an interesting layout: very long and narrow, with doors everywhere and a fireplace to deal with. There are at least 3 different traffic paths through the room that need to be considered.

Here's what we originally came up with for the furniture arrangement:

The door on the far left edge of the photo is the entrance from the back of the house.
The door on the left is a closet, and the door on the right is to the kitchen.
It has worked for a while, but it was difficult to see the TV from the far couch because of the angle. Also, it always felt very crowded going in and out of the kitchen, with the small sofa and the bookshelf right by that door. And see that laptop on the coffee table? Yeah, we needed to deal with that, too.

Recently, I acquired a couple of sweet deals at Target, 70% off! I found this hutch for only $25, regularly $80. I was hoping to find the matching desk also on clearance, but it was either already sold out or wasn't on clearance. So then I found this console table, regularly $120, marked down to $35. I figured it might work as a desk, if nothing else.

But once I brought these awesome bargains to the house, we needed to rearrange the living room just to find a place for them. So here is what we came up with:

Just off the left side of the shot is the entrance from the back of the house.
Closet door on the left, door to kitchen on the right. New console table on the back wall.
This is a bonus view, looking in from the kitchen.
Well, what do you think? Both couches now have a great view of the TV. The entrance to the kitchen is no longer crowded. And the laptop has a new home on the console table! Maybe some day, we'll find the desk to match, so we can put together the hutch and have a great mini-office space.

In other news, our littlest furbaby Fiona hurt herself the other day :( She hasn't quite mastered the "always land on her feet" thing, so when she fell off the couch, she hurt her hip. Doc says that because she's so young (7 weeks old), her bones aren't fully fused yet, so she damaged some of the connective tissue. She has to be on bed rest for 10 days so she can heal, because she doesn't realize that she injured herself and won't be careful. We can't really force a kitten to sleep, so we've put her in the master bathroom shower with a spare windowpane we found in the garage. It allows her to see out, but prevents her from climbing out.

So here is Fiona's home for the next 8 days (2 days down!). It's killing us to keep her penned up, but it's the best thing for her. We don't want her to break a bone or have any lasting damage, like arthritis.

That's all for today! Has anyone ever had to put a pet on bed rest? What did you do to make it easier?
