Place Mat Pillows

Image
I was doing one of my "clearance runs" at Target last week, and I came across some beautiful place mats, on clearance for $2.78. I didn't have a use for place mats, but I loved the fabric, so here is how I turned a couple of place mats into beautiful throw pillows. This project only works if your placement is double-sided, with stitching attaching the two panels together.  Here's all you need for this project that you might not already have (I'm assuming you already have a needle and thread):  I got this bag of Polyester Fiberfill for $4.50 at JoAnn (using a 50% off coupon). I already had the seam ripper. First, you'll use the seam ripper to put an opening in the bottom seam of the place mat. Make your opening wide enough to fit your hand inside.  At each end of the opening, pull the original seam strings until you have long enough pieces to tie. Tie the ends together into a knot, to prevent this seam from opening any further while

Fireplace Makeover

This post is a long time coming...I got a bit distracted with getting married in December, so I'm just now getting around to posting this official reveal. Let's take a look back at the original fireplace on the day J got the keys to the house, back in September of 2011: Lovely, right? It had a basic wooden mantel shelf that we tore out (I don't think we got a picture of that before we tore it out). Here's another look at it once we had replaced all the wood paneling with drywall, but still not much progress was made around the fireplace. We did put cement backer-board around it, with a future plan of tiling. We had also installed hardwood floors and painted the walls in this stage. At some point, I painted the fireplace doors, knowing that we wouldn't want the brass doors. We did look at replacing them entirely, but it was waaaaaaaaay too expensive! I used high-heat resistant grill spray paint, in case anyone is curious.   Then, the fireplac

Weekly Pinterest Round-Up

Alright so I'm a little late on this one...but better late than never! Today we're going to look at some pins from my " One Day I'll Get Organized " and " A Clean Home is a Happy Home " boards on Pinterest. It's almost Spring Cleaning time, so I feel like it's a good time to revisit some of these ideas. First up, this is a great idea for organizing all of those important papers! They are easy to access and much more attractive than a hanging file box. Via A Bowl Full of Lemons Via Pinterest Along those same lines, here is an idea for a binder for all of those personal documents...one binder for each member of the family. via All Things Simple via Pinterest Next up, a simple idea to store all of those grocery bags that you use for small garbage cans around the house. Put one under the sink in each bathroom for easy access each garbage day! These are made from old coffee cans...now, I just need to start drinking coffee...
